My name is Annie Curran and I’m pursuing my Master’s in Irish Writing and Film at University College Cork.
This blog will track my progress as I prepare for and ultimately write my dissertation.
My research focuses on fictional representations of Irish-American film director of John Huston. I am using the theoretical framework of star theory to show how the authors of these fictional texts complicate his star image. My dissertation is an intersection of my areas of interest: Classical Hollywood film, Irish film, 20th Century American literature, constructions of masculinity, and Irish-American identity.
I graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2016, where I earned degrees in English and Film and Media Studies. I wrote an honors thesis on the genre of contemporary Irish-American double-male protagonist films.
Currently, I’m serving as a Fulbright Student to UCC, which was made possible by the generosity of the Irish Fulbright Commission and the U.S. Institute of International Education.
When I’m not working on my MA, you’ll find me in a cinema, reading a good book, or traveling with friends.
